W.R. Bollendorf

W.R. "Bob" Bollendorf, 90, of Wyomissing, formerly of Allentown and Harrisburg, died December 13, 2007 after a brief illness. He and his wife, Peg (Barry) Bollendorf, had recently celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Bob Bollendorf was born December 17, 1916, in Harrisburg, PA, a son of the late William and Anna (Furber) Bollendorf. Mr. Bollendorf was raised in Camp Hill and graduated from Catholic High in Harrisburg. He graduated from North Carolina State University at Raleigh where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. He did post-graduate work at Columbia University.

Starting as a fireman's helper at the Harrisburg Gas Division of UGI in 1940, Mr. Bollendorf retired from the UGI Corporation in 1981 as Vice President and General Manager of the Gas Utility Division. During his career he served as President of IPSCO of Sheffield, PA, a subsidiary of UGI.

Mr. Bollendorf was a kind and generous person who became involved in the communities where he lived. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena parish for the last thirty-five years; served as Chairman of Catholic Charities of Allentown and was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. He was a long time member of the Lehigh Valley Country Club in Allentown. He always had time for family and friends and was an extremely caring man. He was quiet and intelligent and had a sharp wit. He was happiest spending time with his wife and family.

Mr. Bollendorf was an outdoor enthusiast and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He had a true love of nature and enjoyed roaming the hills and the woods around his cabin in Potter County with his dogs. He was an active sports fan; never giving up on the Eagles.

In addition to his wife, Peg, Mr. Bollendorf is survived by two sons, Michael and his wife, Gloria (Huebner) of Glen Allen, VA; Patrick and his wife, Joanne (Jerant) of Reading, PA; and three daughters, Mary Ann Malinowski of Mohnton, PA; Peggy Carberry and her husband John of Needham, MA; and Ellen Scalzi and her husband Mario of Marblehead, MA.

Other survivors include six grandchildren: Michael Bollendorf, Dr. Alex Bollendorf, Collin Bollendorf, Margaret Bollendorf, Kyle Bollendorf and Alan Bollendorf; and one great grandchild, Victoria.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00AM in St. Catharine of Siena RCC Church, Exeter Township. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. Friends may call 9:00-10:00AM Thursday at the church. Contributions may be made to Msgr. Joseph Smith Scholarship Fund c/o St Catharine of Siena R.C. 2328 Perkiomen Ave. Mt. Penn PA. 19606.
