William James "J.J." Woomer, Sr., 68, of Alsace Township, was pronounced dead of natural causes February 21st at 9:00pm in a Potter County Hunting Camp.
He was the widower of Suzanne Marie (Boyer) Woomer, who died July 11, 1999.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Claude F. and Madeline M. (Garrett) Woomer.
He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War.
Woomer served for the Honor Guard in Coudersport, Potter County Post #192.
He was a Bridge Painter, Rigger and a Steeplejack for 42 years, last working for George Zarnas, Maryland, retiring September 1999.
Woomer served as a past shop steward for Reading Local #55, Brotherhood of Painters.
He was a volunteer for a number of years at Alsace Manor Fire Company, where he was an Engineer and part of the ambulance personnel.
Woomer is survived by a daughter, Bonnie L. (Woomer) Heffner of Alsace Township and two sons, William J. Jr. of Leesport and James D. of Reading.
Other survivors include two brothers, Russell and Claude both of Reading and three sisters, Fern (Woomer) Lempergel of Bernville, Bonnie (Woomer) Lash of Lebanon and Terri (Woomer) Spotts of Honeybrook.
There are also four grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 11:00 am in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale. Viewing one hour prior to service. Burial with Military Honors will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Ray A. Master Post #217, Topton American Legion, 133 Centre Avenue, Topton, Pa 19562.
