William M. Weise, retired assistant city editor of Reading Eagle Company, died April 13 at 10:16 p.m. in ManorCare Health Services Inc., Spring Township, where he had resided four months.
Weise, 80, formerly of Garfield Avenue, West Wyomissing, was predeceased by his wife, Leona Mae (Hoffert) Weise, on Aug. 6, 1977.
He was employed for 35 years by Reading Eagle Company, retiring as assistant city editor in July 1993.
Born in Lebanon, he was a son of the late John C. and Etha May (Kercher) Weise.
Weise was previously employed as a reporter by the Lebanon Daily News and a clerk typist and stockroom clerk by the Middletown Air Force Depot, Dauphin County.
He was a 1941 graduate of Lebanon High School and a 1952 graduate of Stetson University, Deland, Fla., with a bachelor's degree in journalism. He received his master's degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., in 1953.
He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II.
Surviving are two daughters, Deanna L. (Yeager) Reuben, Wyomissing, and Jacqueline A. (Weise) Schneider, Rockville, Md.
Other survivors include a brother, Russell, and a sister, Rose (Weise) Hanner, both of Lebanon.
There are also four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Thursday at 7 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery.
