William G. Van Velsor

William G. Van Velsor, 67, of Spring Township died of leukemia February 1, at 6:14 p.m. in Hershey Medical Center where he had been a patient since January 17.

He was the husband of Margaret S. W. (Whitelaw) Van Velsor.

Born in Sea Cliff, NY, he was the son of late Clifford L. Van Velsor and Mabel G. (Botting) McCormac. He was also the step-son of the late Christopher T. McCormac.

Van Velsor was a graduate of Mineola High School, Mineola, NY, in 1955. He received his B.S. degree in economics from Hobart College, Geneva, NY in 1959.

He was a Realtor employed by Moore, McLain, Nally and Shumaker, Sinking Spring, and later Coldwell Banker, Spring Township, for a total of 28 years, last working in January. His professional designations included: GRI, Graduate Realtor Institute and Realtor where he was a member of the Reading Berks Association of Realtors since May 23, 1977.

Prior to his career in real estate he was employed by The Glidden Co., Reading, and Pitney-Bowes, Reading, for 15 years.

Van Velsor was a member of Christ Church (Episcopal), Reading. He was Junior Warden of Vestry, Lay Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Chalicer at Christ Church.

When he was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Whilshire, he was the church's Search Committee Chair and a member of the vestry.

Van Velsor was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He was an active team member in the Cursillo Community.

Van Velsor was Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Berks County Board of Assistance, holding each position for two years. He served on the Board for over 20 years. He was former Chairman for both the Nominating Committee and the Public Policy Committee for the Board of Assistance.

He served on the Board of The Episcopal House, Reading.

Van Velsor was the weatherman for the Inadvertent Good Shot Tennis Club, where he was known as "Wild Willy."

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Gretchen Van Velsor, Bethlehem, Northampton County; Beth (Van Velsor) Vorosmarti, Center Valley, Lehigh County and Kate (Van Velsor) Fanning, West Reading.

Other survivors include one sister, Ruth G. (Van Velsor) McCaffrey, Hawley, PA, Pike County, and one step-brother, Thomas McCormac, Virginia Beach, VA.

He is also survived by five grandchildren: James Vorosmarti, IV, Grace Elizabeth Vorosmarti, Henry Whitelaw Vorosmarti, Gregory David Velsor Evans and William Dean Fanning.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Christ Church. Inurnment in the Church Columbarium will be announced at a later date. Friends may call Friday 6 to 8:30 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Avenue, Reading, PA 19605 or Christ Church North, 5th and Court Streets, Reading, PA 19601. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
