William A. Scheneman

William A. Scheneman

William A. Scheneman, 82, Wyomissing, PA, passed away November 12, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. Born January 6, 1927, in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of the late Raymond and Geraldine (Taylor) Scheneman.

He was the loving husband of Jeanne K. (Lorah) Scheneman for 63 years.

He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, West Virginia and the Ernest Williams Music School, New York.

Bill spent 20 years working in the White House for five presidents. He retired from the U.S. Marine Band, "The President's Own" in Washington, D.C. A professional musician, he performed in 27 countries and every U.S. state playing the euphonium with military bands. He served under Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon.

When living in the Reading, PA area, he performed with the Reading Symphony Orchestra, The Ringgold Band, and the Wyomissing Band. Bill also played music with many other Berks County musical groups.

He was a private brass music teacher for many years and a former member of the Piano Technicians Guild.

Bill also was active in music while living in Bradenton, Florida for 16 years with the Venice Florida Symphony, Sarasota Concert Band, and the Suncoast Band. His love of music was with him all of his life.

He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Reading, PA.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: The Rev. Mark A. Scheneman, husband of Dorothy Scheneman, Carlisle, PA; John P. Scheneman, Shillington, PA and Kathleen S. Kreitz, wife of Atty. Robert R. Kreitz, Spring Township, PA.

A sister, Dolly Snowball, Canton, Ohio, also survives him.

He is survived by seven grandchildren: Stephen Scheneman, husband of Deborah Scheneman, Huntington Beach, CA; Katherine Scheneman Whetstone, wife of Jeff Whetstone, Bethlehem, PA; Amy Kreitz Traffas, wife of Richard Traffas, Spring Township; Elizabeth Scheneman, Arlington, Virginia; Allison Kreitz, Spring Township; Kelly Scheneman, Los Angeles, CA and Peter Scheneman, West Chester, PA.

Two great grandsons and one great granddaughter also survive him.

A Memorial Service will be held November 22 at 2 p.m. in Christ Episcopal Church 435 Court St., Reading, PA 19601. Inurnment will be in Christ Episcopal Columbarium.

The family requests contributions to Berks Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice Program, 1170 Berkshire Blvd., Wyomissing, PA 19610, in Bill's memory to continue special care for others.
