William R. Sands

William R. Sands, 81, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at home. He was loving husband of Sherry R. (Gillmor) Sands until her passing in 2019.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Roy and Viola (Bush) Sands. William graduated Reading High School (Class of 1960) and enlisted in the US Navy. After four years of military service, he went on to work as a furnace operator at Carpenter Tech for over forty years. In retirement, he enjoyed working for the Reading Phillies. He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and loved the music of the band Phish. His family will cherish memories of spending family vacations at Disney World.

William is survived by his son, Brad Sands of Santa Monica, CA; grandsons, Cooper and Crosby Sands; sisters: Virginia Gerhard, Mary Fisher (Charles) and Kathleen Thomason (Kenneth). In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a wonderful son, Matthew Sands and brother, Brooke Sands.

Services will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 1:30 pm in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Ave, West Reading, 19611. The family will receive friends and relatives from 12:30 pm until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics.
