William Henry Reifsnyder

William Henry Reifsnyder, III, M.D., 97, died peacefully on Monday, April 15, 2024 at the Highlands at Wyomissing. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Peggy Ann (Von Dohren) Reifsnyder, on April 26, 2022 after 69 years of marriage. He steadfastly awaited their reunion in Heaven. Bill was born in Bechtelsville, PA on October 12, 1926, the son of the late William H., Jr. and Marian E. (Leister) Reifsnyder. He was a 1944 graduate of Boyertown High School and played on the Berks County championship tennis team, eventually perfecting his serve as a 50-year member of the Berks County Tennis Club.

Bill graduated from Princeton University in 1948, followed by Jefferson Medical College in 1951, where he was elected to membership in Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed a medical internship at the Reading Hospital where he first laid eyes on the young nurse from Oley who was holding a set of newborn twins. He and Peggy were married on January 24, 1953.

They relocated to Rochester, MN where he completed a three-year residency in internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic from 1953 to 1956. Bill then served as a Captain in the US Air Force as Chief of Medicine at Hunter Air Force Base Hospital in Savannah, GA from 1956 to 1958.

He returned to Berks County in 1958 where he would practice internal medicine until his retirement from Berks Internal Medicine in 1996. He served as Medical Director of the Highlands at Wyomissing from its opening in 1987 until his complete retirement in 2006. Bill felt truly honored and privileged to care for his many patients over the years.

He was a member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Medical Association,

Pennsylvania Medical Society, Berks County Medical Society, American Society of Internal Medicine, and was a Life Member of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Reifsnyder held many professional and community leadership positions, including President of the Reading Hospital Medical Staff and Section Chief of Internal Medicine. He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church since 1958, where he served on Church Council, the Fine Arts Committee, and sang in the Choir.

Bill was devoted to his family and had a wide circle of friends. He was a diehard Phillies fan and enjoyed fishing, classical music, piano, reading, crossword puzzles, and ice cream (too many favorite flavors to list.)

Bill is survived by two daughters, Joan L. Lundin (John) of Clarks Summit, PA and Anne M. Dean of Bechtelsville and daughter-in-law Diane B. Reifsnyder of Bernville, widow of son Bruce A. Reifsnyder who passed away in 2013. Infant daughter Diane L. Reifsnyder passed away at age 3 months in Rochester. He is survived by grandchildren Adam J. Reifsnyder (Angela), Benjamin A. Reifsnyder (Nicole), Amiee M. Krotulski (Alex), William A. Lundin (Yanepsi), Mary E. Lundin, and Stephanie L. Walker (Jacob.) The grandchildren will deeply miss their PopPop. Bill is survived by many great-grandchildren: Sarah, Tyler, Emmett, Parker, Hudson, Mason, Charlotte, Magdalyn, Mylah, and Eden. He was eagerly anticipating the birth of another great-grandchild in June. Bill is survived by a step-grandchild, Kayla M. Borden (Max), and five step-great-grandchildren: Savannah, Chloe, Evelyn, Aurora, and Olive. Bill is also survived by a brother-in-law Peter E. Von Dohren (Betty) of Oley and two nephews, Barry Von Dohren (Joyce) and Craig Von Dohren (Kimberly.)

Dr. Reifsnyder was predeceased by daughter-in-law Cynthia M. Reifsnyder and step-granddaughter Heather F. Shirey.

Dr. Reifsnyder's family wish to express their profound gratitude to the staff of the Highlands for their warm and compassionate care over the years. Bill regarded them as family. We also thank Aspire Hospice for their caring and support in his final days.

A Memorial Service was held at Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Boulevard, Wyomissing on Saturday, April 20, 2024. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery, 317 West Philadelphia Avenue, Boyertown.
