William R. Schmehl

William R. Schmehl, 79, died January 31, 2013 in his Reading residence.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Howard J. and Alice E. (Arnold) Schmehl.

He was employed by A & P and Acme Markets, in Thornadale and Reading for 44 years, working as a dairy manager and then bakery manager, retiring in 1995.

William loved to sing and was trained at the Granoff School of Music, Philadelphia. He sang with the Coatesville Choralier, singing barber shop for 8 years; the Lutheran Church of Our Savoir Choir, Coatesville, for 20 years and he also substituted in various churches choirs in the Coatesville area.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict and a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in Vietnam.

William is survived by his nephew, Ronald Schmehl, Cumru Township.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Charles Evans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Ave., Reading, PA 19605. Edward J.
