William R. Fink

William R. Fink, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at his home in Hamburg. He was the devoted husband and loving companion of more than 30 years to Sue Midkiff/Fink.

Born and raised in Hamburg, Bill was the son of the late William R. Fink, Sr. and Viola (Merkel) Fink. He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1953. Known affectionately as "Killer" and "Hook," Bill was a gifted pitcher and was invited to try out for the Pittsburgh Pirates—a testament to his natural athletic ability. Though life led him down a different path, his love for the game endured, and he later found great fulfillment coaching baseball at Hamburg High School and in Florida, where he and Sue often spent time.

Bill spent much of his career as a materials manager at Prestolite and Penn Steel, where he built many lasting friendships. A lifelong learner with an inquisitive mind, he approached every interest with a drive to truly master it. He was a talented amateur photographer, and several of his images of Hawk Mountain were subsequently published. His deep love for nature inspired an active lifestyle—he and Sue climbed Mt. Katahdin in Maine and enjoyed snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and biking through the mountains for as long as his health allowed. He belonged to Rich Maiden Golf Club and played with the Locker Room Gang. A skilled marksman, Bill also had a keen eye and steady hand. Together, he and Sue shared a passion for travel, exploring much of the United States, including Alaska, as well as adventures in Canada and Europe.

Bill will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Sue; his son, Eric Fink and wife Helen of Utah; his grandchildren, Raymond, Caesar, Christopher, and Andrea; his nephew, Dennis Fink and wife Kim; and great-nephews, Andrew, Evan, and Ryan Fink.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Fink, his son, William Thomas (Billy) Fink, and his siblings, Dolores, Katherine, and Ernest.

Contributions in his memory may be offered to his church at the address below.
