William J. Pawelski

William J. Pawelski Sr., 93, formerly of East Wyomissing Boulevard, Wyomissing Park, died Dec. 6 at 5 a.m. in ManorCare Health Services Inc., Spring Township, where he had been a resident since Aug. 8.

He was the husband of Rose M. (Pienta) Pawelski.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Alexander and Catherine (Krawczyk) Pawelski.

Pawelski was co-owner of Pawelski Food Market, Reading, from 1944 until 1974, and later worked 18 years for Baldwin Hardware Manufacturing Corp., retiring in June 1993. He had been previously employed for 10 years as a full-fashion knitter by Berkshire Knitting Mills, Wyomissing.

He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Millmont.

Pawelski was a life member of both the Liberty and Oakbrook fire companies, and the Polish Falcons Alliance of Berks County, Reading.

He was a professional softball pitcher in the Tri-State League, and held the record for most no-hit games at 12 for a number of years.

Pawelski is also survived by four sons: Richard J., Chincoteague, Va.; William J. Jr., Powhatan, Va.; Gregory D., South Heidelberg Township; and Paul J., Bern Township.

Other survivors include a brother, Joseph A., Kenhorst.

There are also eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Robert B., in 1999.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
