William A. Mcdevitt

William A. Mcdevitt

William A. McDevitt, Jr., 80, formerly of 114 Primrose Lane, Wyomissing, Pa 19610, died December 31st in the emergency room at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center where he had been taken from the Mifflin Center, Cumru Township.

He was the husband of Charlotte V. (Kleinert) Trump McDevitt. He first wife Emily F. (Klitch) McDevitt died in 1989.

McDevitt was a son of the late William A. Sr. and Anna M. (Henke) McDevitt.

He was a 1940 graduate of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Reading.

McDevitt also attended John Carroll University, Cleveland, Ohio.

He was the owner of Bill McDevitt Real Estate and Insurance, Shillington for 45 years before retiring in 1990 and also served on the Real Estate Board, Reading for a number of years.

McDevitt was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.

He was a Marine Veteran of WWII.

McDevitt was a former Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus #793, Reading Council and a member of the Holy Name Society and the Sierra Club.

He is also survived by four sons, Michael J. of Flying Hills, Carl L. of Shippensburg, William A. III of Coatsville and Joseph P. of Adamstown.

Other survivors include three daughters, Kathleen (McDevitt) Beighley of Wyomissing, Margaret M. McDevitt of Reading and Anne M. (McDevitt) Solt of Mohnton.

He is also survived by a step-son, Dennis A. Trump of Myerstown and three step-daughters, Carol P. Trump of Wyomissing, Maureen T. (Trump) Smith, Miami, Florida and Jeanne M. (Trump) Manderbach of Mohnton.

There are also four brothers, Bernard L. of Haverford, Anthony of Cleveland, Ohio, Leonard C. of Wyomissing and Francis X. of Akron, Ohio and two sisters, Sister Ildephonse Mary, IHM of Philadelphia and Mary (McDevitt) Carroll of Blue Bell.

He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, two great grandchild, six step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 am in St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield. Viewing Sunday evening 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
