William M. (Duke) LeVan, 88, West Reading, passed away November 7, 2014 under hospice care in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was the loving husband of the late Catherine V. (Fry) Yoder, deceased October 1, 2000.
Born July 17, 1926 in Reading, William was the son of the late William A. and Grace (Eckel) LeVan.
He was a graduate of Reading High School.
Before retirement, William was employed by Meridian Bank, formerly American Bank, as a Real Estate Property Manager for the Colonial Berks Real Estate Division. William also served as the past president of the Greater Reading Board of Realtors, and was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading.
As a U.S. Army veteran, William served active duty in Europe during the last days of the Battle of the Bulge campaign.
Duke's passion was music, and as a lifelong member of the Rajah Shrine, he participated and conducted many of the Shrine's musical groups and activities.
William is survived by his son, Miller (Jay) LeVan, husband of Elaine S. LeVan, South Heidelberg Township. Also surviving is his brother, Walter N. LeVan, Muhlenberg Township; and his granddaughter, Amy L. Brown; and his great-grandson, Abraham A. Brown. He is also survived by sister and brother-in-laws: Beverly (Yoder) Gilbert, Louise (Yoder) Mervine, and Lowell Yoder.
William was predeceased by his sister, Mary (Wurster) Miller.
In his later years, William cherished the companionship of his much beloved friend, Nancy Lombardo, and her family, of Shillington.
A Memorial Service will be Wednesday at 12 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
