William Gilbert Hornberger, Sr., 66, of 304 North State Street, Shillington, Pa 19607 died January 9th at 9:25 pm in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center where he been since earlier that morning.
Hornberger was taken there from the Mifflin Health Care Center, Cumru Township where he had been since June 18, 2003.
He was the husband of Shirley Mary (Eckenrode) Hornberger.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Gilbert T. and Evelyn M. (Rupp) Hornberger.
Hornberger worked as a welder for 38 years at Dana Corporation, Reading until his retirement in 1992.
He was a Navy Veteran.
Hornberger was a District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America Troop #237 for eight years.
He was a life member of the Reading VFW and a member of the VA Association, Lebanon.
Hornberger is also survived by a son, William G. Jr., husband of Stephanie (Mavromates) Hornberger of Bern Township.
Other survivors include a step-mother, Rose (Elbert) Hornberger, of Shillington and a sister, Jan L. (Hornberger) Barcznski of Brecknock Township.
He is also survived by five brothers, Richard P. of Allentown, Robert E. of Farmington, NY, Gary G. of Lititz, Lancaster County, Dennis E. of Reading and David L. of Bethlehem, Northhampton County.
There is also three grandchildren.
Hornberger was predeceased by a brother, Thomas E. Hornberger and a sister, Barbara Ann (Hornberger) Pate.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 1501 North West 9th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33136. Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale, is in charge of arrangements.
