William H. Hayes, 77, died July 7, 2007 in his Sinking Spring residence.
He was the husband of Sarah M. (McGovern) Hayes.
Born in Port Carbon, he was the son of the late William and Lillian (McCord) Hayes.
He was a graduate of St. Steven's High School, Port Carbon.
William was a train dispatcher for Reading Railroad and later Conrail for a total of 45 years retiring in 1992.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict.
William was a member of St. John Baptist de la Salle Roman Catholic Church, Shillington.
He was a former vice president of NARVRE, National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Michael P., Exeter Twp. and William husband of Johanna (Day), Hockessin, DE; and four daughters, Susan Hayes, Leesport, Kathleen H. wife of William Mansell, Barnsville, Patricia Hayes, Sinking Spring and Molly Miller, Wernersville. There is also one sister, Mary Elizabeth wife of Wilbur C. Killian, Schuylkill County and a cousin Melvia Anne, wife of Atty. Stanley Burke, Port Carbon. Nine grandchildren, Sean Hayes, Lindsay Hayes, Caitlin Miller, Sarah Miller, Kelsey Mansell, Maggie Mansell, Liam Mansell, Shannon Hayes and Quinn Hayes also survive him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in St. John's Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the church.
