William Carey Gilbert

William C. Gilbert, 82, died June 4, 2007 at 5:15 a.m. in his Hyde Park residence.

Born August 21, 1924, in Reading, he was a son of the late Maxwell C. Sr. and Caroline (Steppe) Gilbert.

He was predeceased by his wife Geraldine A. (Pasquale) Gilbert who died in 1985.

William was a 1940 graduate of Reading High School.

He was employed as an auditor for the First Army for many years, traveling all over the country, retiring in 1986.

William was a former member of both Goodwill Fire Company, Hyde Park and East Ends Athletic Club, Reading.

He is survived by a sister-in-law, Ann Gilbert of Alsace Township, who was predeceased by her husband James "Bud" Gilbert.

Other survivors include, four nephews, Norman H. "Butch", wife of Sara G. (Gesler) Klemmer of Charlotte, NC; Ronald Gilbert of Cape Coral, FL; James H. Gilbert Jr. of Oley; and Douglas Gilbert of Winston Salem, NC.

He is also survived by a great-nephew, Kraig R., husband of Janet M. (Lynch) Biehl of Lower Alsace Township.

There are also many other great-nieces and nephews surviving.

William was predeceased by two brothers, James "Bud" Gilbert and Maxwell C. Gilbert and a sister Betty (Klemmer) Leidy.

Services will be held on Thursday at 1:30 pm in the Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, with the Rev. Merrill R. Marisseau officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services in the funeral home. Interment will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.
