William J. Duddy, former owner of an area insurance agency, was dead on arrival Nov. 29 in Reading Hospital.
Duddy, 84, of Heather Lane, Bern Township, was the husband of Ruth A. (Brophy) Duddy.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Patrick and Mary (Morris) Duddy.
Duddy was the owner of Service Insurance Agency Inc., Mount Penn, from 1957 until his retirement in 1982.
He was a member of St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church, Reading.
Duddy was a 1937 graduate of St. Peter's High School, Reading.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Duddy served as the first president of both the St. Brendan's Division of Ancient Order of Hibernians, Reading, and the Reading Toastmasters International Club.
He also served as past president of the Berks County Regional Holy Name Society.
Duddy is also survived by two sons, Michael P., Colony Park, Spring Township, and Terrence D., Torrance, Calif.; and three daughters: Colleen M. (Duddy) LaScala, West Pittston, Luzerne County; Denise M. (Duddy) Mogel, Wyomissing; and Sheila M. Duddy, Minneapolis.
Other survivors include a sister, Rosemary (Duddy) McFadden, Allentown; and three brothers: Rev. Patrick, Villa St. Joseph, Darby, Delaware County; Robert, Reading; and Bernard, Allentown.
There are also 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 7 p.m. in St. Margaret's Church. Private entombment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum, Laureldale. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
