William C. Dowling

William C. "Bill" Dowling, 83, passed away peacefully in his Spring Township residence on Thursday, June 22, 2017, with his companion and caregiver of several years by his side.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Myrtle Dowling, his wife Dorothy, his brother Robert and his sister Doris. Survivors include two nephews and three nieces.

Bill was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School, Kutztown State Teachers College and Temple University; he also took a number of graduate courses at Pennsylvania State University. He was a high school chemistry teacher for some four decades starting in 1955 at the West Reading and Wyomissing Area High School, serving as the faculty advisor for numerous clubs and activities.

Bill was a respected educator, having received numerous accolades including Berks County and Pennsylvania Educator of the Year in 1977. Bill was active with the Boy Scouts of America. He and Dorothy were great travelers of the world with Ireland being their favorite destination. His passion was Penn State football, having been a season ticket holder for more than 40 years.

Graveside services will be held in Forest Hills Memorial Park on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 10 a.m. Contributions may be made in William's name to the Wyomissing Area Education Foundation, 630 Evans Ave., Wyomissing, PA 19610.
