William Paul Christman

William P. Christman, Jr., 87, of Oley, passed away November 4, 2014 in Reading Hospital. He was the loving husband of, Thelma B. (Reichert) Christman. They were married 65 years. Born in Oley, Bill was the son of the late William P. Sr. and Edna M. (Reppert) Christman.

He was a 1945 graduate of Oley Valley High School. He served in the United States Army from 1945-1947 and was selected from his unit to attend the Nuremberg War Trials in Nuremberg, Germany during World War II. Bill was employed for 32 years by Stanley G. Flagg Company, Stowe before retiring as a Chief Chemical Analyst in 1983.

He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Oley, where he served on the consistory, various committees and taught Sunday School.

Bill played, coached and umpired in several area baseball leagues during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. He also served on the Oley Valley School District Board of Directors for 30 years. Bill was one of the six founding members of the Oley Valley Youth League. He was a member of the Oley American Legion and the Oley Fersommling Committee.

He was a loving father and grandfather who loved to spend time with his family. Bill enjoyed working in his garden, was a Phillies fan, an avid deer hunter and enjoyed serving the community.

In addition to his wife, Bill survived by his daughter, Karen L., wife of Jeff L. Shearer, of Alsace Township and a son, Kirk W., husband of Sherry L. Christman, of Alsace Township. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew, husband of Sara Yoder, Numidia, Columbia County; Lauren Yoder, Leesport; Bryan Shearer, Groton, CT and a great-granddaughter, Adelaide Yoder. He was predeceased by his brother, George "Shorty" Christman.

Services will be held Friday, November 7th at 7:00 pm in Frieden's United Church of Christ, 337 Main Street, Oley, PA 19547. A viewing will be held Friday from 4:00 pm until time of services in the Church. Burial with Military Honors will be held graveside Saturday, November 8th at 10:00 am in Frieden's Cemetery, Oley.
