William C. Heckman

William Clarence "Pete" Heckman, 80, of Temple, died January 16, 2013 in St. Joseph Medical Center.

He was married July 21, 1973 to Jeanette May (Hueston) Heckman, who died September 23, 2011.

Born in the Reading Hospital on March 17, 1932, he was a son of the late Clarence Albert Heckman and Dorothy (Wentzel) Heckman.

He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Pete was employed as a truck driver with Deka Battery for 10 years and later in the same capacity with Rubright Construction for over 10 years.

He was last employed as a crossing guard for the Muhlenberg School District, last working November 18, 2012.

Pete volunteered for over 20 years with Berks County Meals-On-Wheels.

He is survived by two children: George C., husband of Lisa (Palko) Heckman of Tilden Township and Sally A. Reitenauer of Temple.

Other survivors include five siblings: Viola, widow of Richard Himmelberger of Orwigsburg; Nancy, widow of Harold Buck of Reading; Richard, husband of Lucinda (Rentschler) Heckman of Shoemakersville; David, husband of Joan (Miller) Heckman of Hamburg and Carol, wife of Jerry Kamenas of Pottsville.

There are also five grandchildren: Shawn Heckman, Shane Heckman, George Heckman Jr., Owen Reitenauer and Emily Reitenauer and three great grandchildren: Chloe Heckman, Owen Heckman and Preston Heckman.

Services will be Saturday, January 26th at 11:00 am in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens.
