William Lewis Buchanan

William Lewis Buchanan, Jr., 79, died January 7, 2014 in his Muhlenberg Township residence, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the loving husband of Josephine Ann (Kurenda) Buchanan, whom he married July 16, 1960.

Born January 1, 1936 in Coatesville, Chester County, he was a son of the late William Lewis, Sr. and Catherine (Merkle) Buchanan.

William was a 1953 graduate of Coatesville High School and a graduate of Penn State University.

He was employed as a research engineer with Bell Laboratories/AT&T for 29 years, retiring in 1989.

William served in the U.S. Navy.

His true passion was building boats, sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, and helping his children and grandchildren. He is also remembered for all of his woodworking skills and many projects.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his four children: William L., III., husband of Lea E. Buchanan of Maidencreek Township; Karen L., wife of Robert Ruhl of Palm Harbor, FL; Lynn E., wife of Bradley M. Manwiller of Muhlenberg Township and Catherine, wife of Stephen B. Skrocki of Spring Township.

Other survivors include his brother, James C., husband of Patricia Buchanan of Parkesburg, Chester County and his sister, Constance, widow of Joseph McGowan of California; two nieces and two nephews.

There are also eight grandchildren: Andrew Price, Derrike Price, Miles Buchanan, Valerie Manwiller, Rachel Manwiller, Abigail Manwiller, Alexis Skrocki and Brodie Skrocki and one great granddaughter, Josephine Price.
