William V. Barthel, formerly of Mohnton, and a resident of Manor at Market Square, Reading, passed May 10, 2016 just shy of his 91st birthday.
He was the husband of Mary L. (DeCindio) Barthel whom he married on September 27, 1952.
William preceded his beloved wife in death by only one week.
Born in Brockton, PA, William was the son of the late William and Bessie (Reedy) Barthel.
William served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He was employed as a machinist and tool maker at Dana Corporation for over 40 years. He loved the outdoors and was a lifelong hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by three children: William Barthel, Mohnton; Marie, wife of David Setley, Mohnton; and Donna, wife of Rick Sager, McCloud, CA. Other survivors include his four grandchildren: Jessica (Setley) Long; Kelly (Setley) Keim; Scott and Madison Sager; three great-grandchildren: Brooke and Breckin Keim; and Roslyn Long; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Tina.
William is predeceased by his brothers Kenneth and Alvin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. John Baptist de la Salle Roman Catholic Church, 42 Kerrick Road, Shillington. Burial will follow at Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. A visitation will be held from 9:30-10 a.m. in the church. Edward J.
