Willard "Bill" Lewis Ruhe, Jr., 94, of Wyomissing, died May 19, 2015, at The Highlands of Wyomissing.
He was the loving husband of Bette K. (Keim) Ruhe. They were married for 68 years.
Born in August 4, 1920 in New York City, he was a son of the late Willard Lewis, Sr., and Rachel (Bateson) Ruhe.
He attended Philadelphia University and Wharton Business School.
Bill was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII in the 69th Infantry Air Corp, Camp Gorden Augusta, GA and Ardennes, France. He completed Infantry Basic Training in Ft. Mead, MD.
He was the co-owner and operator of Nomend Hosiery Company. The company developed the first seamless hosiery in the industry. They sold the business to the Berkshire Knitting Mills where he was then employed as a salesman whose office was located in New York at the Empire State Building.
In his retirement, he enjoyed painting water colors. His paintings were noteworthy and admired by many . During an art show in Cape May, one of his paintings was selected to hang in the NJ State Capital.
He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Wyomissing.
Bill was a member of the Wyomissing Art Institute; Berkshire Investments Club; YR Club, and Cape May Art Community.
He enjoyed, painting, Cape May, traveling, cooking and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Robert C., husband of Laila Ruhe, Mohnton; his daughter-in-law, Bernadette Ruhe, Wyomissing; four grandchildren: Matthew; Jennifer; Michael; and Steven and two great-grandchildren: Cali and Austin.
Bill was predeceased by his son, Thomas B. Ruhe.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Atonement Lutheran Church 5 Wyomissing Blvd., Wyomissing, PA, 19610. Entombment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church. Contributions may be made to: American Red Cross, 701 Centre Ave., Reading, PA 19601 or charity of your choice in his name. Edward J.
