Wilbur "Bill" L. Smith

Wilbur L. "Bill" Smith, Jr., (91), formerly of Wyomissing, passed away October 11, 2023, at Southeastern Veterans Center.

He was the husband of Joan L. (Bampton) Smith.

Born in Duluth, Minnesota, he was a son of the late Wilbur L., Sr. and Louise V. (Cowan) Smith.

He was a graduate of Duluth High School.

Wilbur served our nation proudly and valiantly in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

Bill worked at Western Electric / AT&T for approximately 38 years.

He was a dedicated member of Victory Baptist Church throughout his senior or later life, actively participating in the church choir and finding great joy in singing the Lord's Prayer. Known for his generosity, he was a loving husband and father who also contributed to the special music foundation and played an important role in renovating the pastor's home. Additionally, he found pleasure in attending Sight and Sound musical performances and vacationing in Wildwood, Cape May and other places. He was an avid golfer and had a hearty contagious laugh.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: David S. Smith, Laura M. Gechter, and Diane Louise Mancuso; his step-daughter, Aimee Najarian; six grandchildren: Michael Smith, John Ryan, Erica Mecleary, Katrina Gechter, Joseph Mancuso, and Dominic Mancuso; and three great- grandchildren: Micah Smith, Noah Mecleary, and Lilah Mecleary.

Bill was predeceased by two sons, Kevin L. Smith and Lance R. Smith; and two siblings, Robert H. Smith and Jean L. Smith.

A Celebration of Life Services will be celebrated Monday October 16, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Burial will be private. A viewing will be Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions, may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
