Wayne Joseph Shearer

Wayne J. Shearer, 79, of Ruscombmanor Township, passed away January 24, 2015 in Reading Hospital. He was the loving husband of Fern M. (Shade) Shearer. They were married 57 years. Born in Stony Creek, Wayne was a son of the late Irvin and Mary Shearer.

He was a 1954 graduate of Mt. Penn High School. Wayne was involved in the trucking industry most of his life. He began his career as a tuck mechanic working with his father at Irvin E. Shearer Incorporated. Later he was employed as a salesman by the International Harvester Company, Reading and Central Garage, Womelsdorf, before retiring in 1998.

He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. Wayne spent many hours outdoors with family and friends hunting and fishing.

He was a 31 year member of Huguenot Lodge #377, F. & A.M., Kutztown; Scottish Rite, West Reading and the Rajah Shriners, Reading. As a member of the Shriner Chanters, Wayne sang at many events, entertaining at retirement communities and churches. As part of the Shriners commitment to children, Wayne transported children and their families to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia.

He was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stony Creek, where he served on the church council.

In addition to his wife, Wayne is survived by two sons, Jeffrey L., husband of Karen L. Shearer, of Alsace Township and Gregory A., husband of Cindy M. Shearer, of Rockland Township. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Chelsea, wife of Brian Wimmer of Oahu, HI and Bryan Shearer of Groton, CT. Wayne was looking forward to the arrival of his great granddaughter, Hannah. He is also survived by a brother, Irvin E. Shearer of Stony Creek. He was predeceased by his sisters, Fay Kline and Mary Jane Miller.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 1st at 2:00 pm in Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1375 Friedensburg Road, Reading (Stony Creek), PA 19606. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
