Walter E. Zimmerman

Walter Edward Zimmerman, 91, of Fleetwood, passed away at St. Joseph Medical Center.

Born in Chicago, Illinois on September 9, 1921, he was a son of the late Walter Charles and Katherine (Moroney) Zimmerman.

Walter is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Pamm (Cucinotta) Zimmerman who provided him with love and devoted care.

Walter was a loving father to Sandra (Zimmerman) Bachman of Williamsport; Katherine (Zimmerman) Haggar of Austin, TX; Walter Zimmerman, Esq. of Hartland, WI and James Zimmerman of Miramar, FL.

He enjoyed being "Pop-Pop" to his grandchildren, Dustin, Alexander, Elizabeth, Katherine, Victoria and Caroline, who loved him dearly.

Walter was predeceased by his four siblings: Margarite, Gladys, Dorothy and Ralph and his two grandsons, Matthew and Erik.

He graduated from Lane Technical High School in Chicago. After graduation, he started his career as a machinist at the Hawthorne Works of Western Electric. During World War II, he attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) and then served as a merchant marine.

After college and wartime service, he returned to Western Electric/AT&T where he completed 44 years of service, retiring as a senior engineer in 1986. He was active in the Telephone Pioneers of America and other charitable causes.

He was a member of Holy Guardian Angel's Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park.

Walter will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale.
