Walter William Woolwine

Walter William Woolwine, Jr., 81, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Leda (Schaeffer) Woolwine, with whom he was about to celebrate 60 years of marriage.

Born in Reading, he was the only child of the late Walter William, Sr. and Lulu (March) Woolwine. After graduating Mount Penn High School (Class of 1960), Walter began working at the Reading Eagle as a messenger for the advertising department. He was proud to have spent the next 53 years working for the newspaper, retiring from the position of Advertising Director in 2013.

Walter also served his community through his active involvement on the boards of the Olivet Boys and Girls Club, Crime Alert, Berks Encore, and Our City of Reading. In his leisure time, Walter enjoyed woodworking, playing golf and attending his favorite weekly auctions.

Left to treasure his memory are wife, Leda; son, Ryan Woolwine, husband of Beth, of Mohnton; daughter, Tara L. Miller, wife of Donald A. Miller, Jr.; and five grandchildren of whom he was extremely proud: Trevor, Mason, and Alena Woolwine, and Hope and Emma Miller. Being their Pop-pop was a role he cherished. He never missed their games, recitals and special events.

Services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 4:00 pm at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. 739 Penn Avenue West Reading, PA 19611. A viewing will be held from 2:00 pm until the time of the service. Burial at Pleasant View Cemetery in Sinking Spring will be private.
