Walter H. Uckert

Walter Helmuth Uckert, 84, of 324 Rothermel Blvd., (Muhlenberg Township), Reading, Pa 19605 and formerly of Emmaus, died June 16th at 2:40 am in ManorCare Health Services, Muhlenberg Township, where he had been since June 11th.

He was the husband of Joanne B. (Little) Uckert, at home.

Uckert was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth L. (Cherrington) Uckert, who died December 29, 1980.

Born in Grenzach, Germany, he was the son of the late Isidor and Augusta (Strittmatter) Uckert.

He was a 1939 graduate of Allentown Central Catholic.

Uckert was employed for 40 years as a commercial artist at Art Engraving Company, Reading until 1996.

He was also a freelance commercial artist for 50 years before retiring in 2000.

Uckert was a Boy Scout Leader for a number of years in Allentown.

He was an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII.

Uckert is also survived by three daughters, Nancy S. (Uckert) Lewis of West Lawn, Sandra A. (Uckert) Groff of Downingtown, Chester County and Karen E. (Uckert) Slyman of Exton, Chester County.

Other survivors include three step-daughters, Lou A. Geary of Schuylkill Haven, Schuylkill County, Lynn M. (Geary) Nagle of Schuylkill Haven, Schuylkill County and Leigh E. (Geary) Rainis of Ashland, Schuylkill County.

There are also 12 grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be Saturday at 10:00 am in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale. No public viewing. Burial will be private in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township.
