Walter B. Prutzman

Walter B. Prutzman, 96, formerly of Oley, died February 13, 2014 in Berks Heim, where he was a resident for two years.

He was the husband of Ellen B. (Reider) Prutzman, who passed away February 28, 2009.

Born in Oley Township, he was a son of the late Charles G. and Jennie M. (Bower) Prutzman. He was predeceased by all 15 of his siblings.

Mr. Prutzman was employed, initially, with Berkshire Knitting Mills, as a full fashion knitter when he was drafted into the U.S. Army in March, 1941. He served with Co. B, 54th Signal Battalion during World War II in Iceland, England, France, Belgium and Germany. After returning home he was employed with the former Boyertown Packaging Company, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of Frieden's United Church of Christ, Oley.

Mr. Prutzman was also a member of Oley, Ruscombmanor and Boyertown Fire Companies; Oley American Legion Post 878 and Pikeville Sportsman's Association.

He enjoyed his family, playing cards, hunting and cutting grass on his "John Deere."

Surviving are his three children: Elaine P., wife of Guy L. Bierman of Oley Township; Denis W., husband of Margie E. Prutzman of Lower Alsace Township and Carole Ann, wife of David L. Speicher of Mt. Pleasant.

In addition, there are five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 423 Main Street, Oley. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Frieden's Cemetery.
