Walter E. Portner

Walter E. Portner, 91, of Marcor Drive, Spring Township, died Dec. 25 at 4:50 a.m. in Phoebe Berks Health Care Center Inc., Wernersville, where he had been a patient since Dec. 4.

His wife, Maude (Kern) Portner, died Sept. 30, 1991.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary (Clouser) Portner.

Portner was the owner of Walter E. Portner Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, operating the business from his home for 30 years, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church, West Lawn.

Portner is survived by a daughter, Sandra L. (Portner) Dugan, Fleetwood, and a son, Walter R., North Heidelberg Township.

Other survivors include a brother, Charles, Reading, and a sister, Mary (Portner) Johnson, Pricetown.

There are also seven grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one stepgreat-grandson and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Tuckerton.
