Walter M. Artz

Walter Milton Artz, 81, of Wyomissing, died October 16, 2010 in Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was the husband of Nancy (Walton) Artz, whom he married June 18, 1955.

Born March 29, 1929 in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Ira Stephen and Emma Jane (Morgan) Artz.

Walter was a 1946 graduate of Pottsville High School and a 1950 graduate of Penn State University, where he received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.

He was employed as an electrical engineer with Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent Technologies for 33 years, retiring in 1987.

Walter was a member of Lincoln Park United Methodist Church. He served on the church's Board of Trustees where he was a past President.

He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Also surviving are his two daughters, Donna L., wife of Chris H. Sweimler of Sinking Spring and Deborah A., wife of Daniel S. Christopher of Sinking Spring.

In addition, there is a brother, Ira H. Artz of Lewisville, NC surviving.

Other survivors include three grandchildren: Douglas J. and Bradley A. Sweimler and Caitlyn R. Christopher.

Walter was predeceased by two brothers, Elmer and Clyde Artz and three sisters, Florence A. Melnichek, E. Lorraine Platt and Esther Artz.

A viewing will be held Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading with burial following in Schuylkill Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Lincoln Park United Methodist Church, 1 Carlisle Avenue, Reading, PA 19609.
