Walter Robert Gasser, 89, formerly of Reading, died September 3, 2011 in Berkshire Center, Exeter Township.
He was the husband of Ora Jean (Kehrer) Gasser, whom he married October 25, 1952.
Born October 21, 1921 in Reading, he was a son of the late Harvey and Emma (Kissling) Gasser.
Walter was a 1939 graduate of Reading High School.
He was employed as a meter reader with Met-Ed, Muhlenberg Township for over 30 years, before retiring in 1987.
Walter served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he was a cabinet maker in service.
He enjoyed fishing at Antietam Lake, walking and oil painting.
Walter was a member of Met-Ed's electrical union.
Also surviving are three children: Allan R., husband of Lisa L. (Moyer) Gasser of Cumru Township; Carol J. (Gasser) Elbert of Exeter Township and Janice L. (Gasser), wife of Richard E. Croft of Exeter Township.
Other survivors include six grandchildren: Joe, Melissa, Jessica, Tiffany, Tracy and Deborah; six great grandchildren, Natalie, Olivia, Brayden, Tyler, Eric and Rachel and a great great granddaughter, Arianna.
Walter was predeceased by four siblings: Virginia (Gasser) Neider, Kenneth Gasser, Wilbur Gasser and Richard Gasser.
Services will be Thursday at 12:00 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. A viewing will be held one hour prior to service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township.
