Walter R. Burns, Sr.

Walter Raymond Burns, Sr. 91, of Spring Township, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, January 19, 2016 at the Reading Hospital.

He was the husband of Patricia A. (nee Hoffman) Burns. They married on May 29, 1983.

Born in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late Joseph A. Sr., and Anna (Oliver) Burns.

He graduated from Mt. Saint Joseph High School, Baltimore, MD and University of Maryland in 1950 earning a bachelor's degree in business and accounting.

Walter was owner and operator of Burns Personnel Inc., a professional placement service for 22 years until his retirement. He previously worked for General Electric, NY City for 16 1/2 years and Bank of Pennsylvania for 8 years as an installment Loan Operations Officer.

He was a US Navy veteran serving during WWII, where he served in the Navy Air Corp in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. He was an aviation radioman for the air patrol bombing squad.

Walter was a member of Community Bible Church, Spring Township.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Walter R. Burns Jr., fiancée of Gloria, FL; Claire Jane, wife of Alfred Neri, Exeter Township; P. Mark Burns, fiancée of Jane, VA and Dennis S. Burns, CA. Sister-in-law, Janet and husband, Randall Harbach, Womelsdorf; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Walter was predeceased by his daughter, Karen L. Burns and brother, Joseph A. Burns, Jr.

The family would like to give special thanks to his caregivers: Dan, Tiffany, Diane and Aleta for their attention to Walter's and his family's needs.

Services will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Burial will be in St. John (Hain's) Cemetery.
