Walter A. Bender

Walter A. Bender, Jr., 71, of Ruscombmanor Township, passed away suddenly Monday, May 9, 2011 at St. Joseph Medical Center emergency room..

He was the husband of Sandra "Sandy" L. (Shuker) Bender.

Born in Rochester, NY, he was the son of the late Walter A. Bender, Sr. and M. Nellie (Woloschen) Bender.

Walter was employed as the plant manager for Trebur-Allen for 14 years before his retirement. Previously, he worked for 23 years as a supervisor for Reading Tube. An Army Reserves veteran, he was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Stony Creek. He was a member of the Ruscombmanor Planning Committee, Limekiln Hunt, and Chandler Lodge 227 since 1979.

He loved traveling with his wife, snowmobiling, and hunting and was a loving husband, brother, and uncle.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Charles W. Bender of Ofallon, MO; three sisters: S. Rose Lee Haake of Pennside, Kathy Fields of West Lawn, and Cindy Gerhart of Pennside; nieces and nephews: Allen Pfleger, Robert Haake, Stephanie Bohr, Terri O'Niell, Tricia Heffelfinger, and Jennifer Gerhart; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. Friday, May 13, 2011 from Blankenbiller Funeral Home, 423 Main St., Oley with Rev. Merrill R. Marisseau officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 am. Masonic rites will be conducted by Chandler Lodge #227 at 10:45 am.
