Vivian Mylin Smith, 101, passed away in the early hours of Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the Highlands where she was a resident for over 20 years. She was weeks away from her 102nd birthday. Vivian was the widow of Jesse Pershing Smith, who passed away on February 17, 2010, after over 64 years of marriage.
Born in Eden, PA, to the late Amos Radcliffe Mylin and Elsie May Fritz Mylin, Vivian graduated from McCaskey High School in 1942. She attended Penn State Main Campus but departed from the university after contracting and battling Scarlet Fever.
She was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church for many years and previously served as President of the Women's Association as well as on the church council.
Vivian was a woman of many talents. A harpist, she performed in two symphony orchestras. She was a skilled card player and became a Master of Bridge, particularly Duplicate Bridge. Vivian was also a skilled gardener.
Descended from the original settlers of Willow Valley, PA, Vivian was proud to be a 9th generation American.
Left to cherish her memory are: her children, Andrea Fine, widow of R. Samuel Fine, of Kingsville, MD, and Christian B Smith, husband of Carol Royal Smith, of Sykesville, MD; grandchildren, Jennifer Ward (Bryan), Gregory Fine (Dawn), Jonathan Fine (Kathleen), Brian Smith, and Daniel Smith (Abigail); six great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Vivian was predeceased by her daughter, Cynthia Whitten.
Contributions in her memory may be offered to Atonement Lutheran Church.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Blvd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m.
