Viola Nancy Gilbert

Viola Nancy Gilbert, 86, formerly of Muhlenberg Township, died December 30, 2014 in Spruce Manor, West Reading, surrounded by her loving family.

She was the loving wife of Charles Homer Gilbert, Sr. who died October 31, 2003.

Born April 21, 1928 in Huntingdon, PA, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Fremont and Louella Gray (Kauffman) Smith.

Viola was a great cook and avid gardener; she also was a crafty woman who loved to sew. Her biggest joy, however, came from time spent with her large family.

Surviving are her six children: Carol L. (Gilbert), wife of James W. Millisock of Shallotte, NC; Steven C., husband of Vicki L. (Kochan) Gilbert of Mohrsville; Sherry L. (Gilbert), wife of Barry D. Stern of Muhlenberg Township; Bradley R., husband of Roxane L. (Wummer) Gilbert of Dunedin, FL; Randy S., husband of Gina M. (Intelisano) Gilbert of Muhlenberg Township and Charles H., husband of Rebecca L. (Ulrich) Gilbert of Lewes, DE.

Also surviving are her 26 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Viola was predeceased by her daughter, Linda S. Gilbert in 1959; her son, Barry J. Gilbert on February 16, 2003; her brother, Donald Smith and her four sisters, Georgiana Robertson, Floris Cooper, Mary Shade and Margaret Watson.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.
