Vincent J. O'Bara, passed away April 10, 2015 at the Reading Hospital.
He was the loving husband of Theresa "Nina" O'Bara whom he was married to for 62 years.
Born in Johnstown, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Cehura) O'Bara.
Vincent received a bachelor's degree from Penn State University in 1951 and a master's degree from West Chester University in 1975.
Vincent was a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force where he met his beautiful wife Nina.
He was employed by the Reading School District as Director of Physical Education Health and Safety for 24 years.
Vince was a football standout at Johnstown High, which he directed to a 26-2-1 record in three seasons. He went on to become the starting quarterback at Penn State as a senior in 1950 under the coaching of first-year assistant Joe Paterno.
He was an assistant football coach at Trenton Central (NJ) and at Albright College. He also was head football coach at Reading High and Central Dauphin and head track coach at Central Dauphin and Steelton-Highspire.
He was a teacher and school administrator for 37 years, including two decades in Reading.
He was inducted into the Berks County Sports Hall of Fame.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters: Candace L., wife of Al Yanosik, Barbara A., wife of Brian Bradbury, Vanessa M., wife of Warren Walborn, and Kimberley A., wife of Andrew Kramer. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Ignatius of Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: The Keystone Wounded Warrior, P.O.
