Vernona Saylor

Vernona L. Saylor, 80, lovingly known as Sis, long-time resident of Hamburg,was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on the morning of September 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Reading to the late Irene Hoster (Heckman), Vernona was a hard working woman who raised six children while working as a house cleaner. She also previously worked as a cleaner for Tom Schaeffer's Camping and Travel Center and for Boscov's Department Store.

Vernona was known for her unwavering faith and the deep love she held for her family, who were the center of her world. Sis loved aimlessly driving the country roads and stopping at various locations for a bite to eat. She loved to watch the visitors of the Kutztown Park and sitting in nature basking in God's beauty. Vernona always passed the word of our Savior on to others. She was loved by everyone she met.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Mary A. Steinly of Schuylkill Haven; Dale Saylor, Jr., husband of Tina, of Lenhartsville; Dennis Saylor, husband of Angie, of Hamburg; Lisa Ramsey, wife of Michael, of Fleetwood; Mark Saylor, widower of Joanne, of Denver; and David Saylor, husband of Lisa, of Hamburg; her 14 grandchildren; her 27 great grandchildren; and her brothers, Lester and Jimmy Engle. She is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, and their families.

In addition to her mother, Vernona was predeceased by her great granddaughter, Natasha Newell, and her siblings, Shirley Steinly, and Dennis, Terry, Henry, and Larry Heckman.

Funeral Services for Vernona will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home & Crematory, 40 S 4th St, Hamburg, with commital to follow at St. John's Cemetery. Visitation and viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the funeral service. Her family encourages you to come as you are in casual attire.
