Verna I. Schlier

Verna I. Schlier, 95 of Hamburg died June 22, 2015 in St. Joseph's Hospital & Medical Center. She was the widow of George E. Schlier, Jr. who died June 4, 1995. Verna was born in Greenwich Township on April 15, 1920 and was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Sunday) Heinly. She was a factory worker for many years in the garment industry working in the Shoemakersville and Hamburg Area. She last worked for J.C. Gilardone, Virginville. Verna was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fleetwood. She was a long-time and well-respected Sunday school teacher at Dunkel's Church for many years. She loved to quilt,bake, cook and garden. She loved her family, which included dogs for most of her 95 years. Above all else, she will be remembered for finding joy in simple things, her delightful wit, and her unbounded common sense. Verna was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by two children, David G. husband of Kathi Schlier, Hamburg and Faye S. wife of Daniel Fick, Hamburg with whom she resided. Two grandchildren, David A. Schlier, Philadelphia and Alyssa wife of Fabiano Schiullo, Pittsburgh and three great-grandchildren also survive her. She was the last of her eight siblings who predeceased her. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 26th at 11:00 AM from the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc., 40 S. 4th St. Hamburg. A viewing will be held on Friday from 9:30 to 11:00 AM.
