Verna R. Stickles

Verna Ruth (Haag) Stickles, 85, formerly of Robeson Township, died August 12, 2009 in Rest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, York, where she had been a resident for the last four years.

She was the widow of Robert Norman Stickles, who died August 18, 1998.

Born in Reading on March 25, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Ruth (Kauffman) Haag.

She was a member of Mount Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, York and a former member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gibraltar.

Verna was a 1942 graduate of Wyomissing High School and a 1945 graduate of Kutztown State Teachers College.

She was employed 21 years as a teacher and librarian with the Twin Valley School District.

Verna was a life member of the Hay Creek Valley Historical Society.

She is survived by three daughters: Sharon S. Harvey of York; Bonnie Seaholdt of Honeybrook and Carol Stickles of Bath.

Other survivors include a sister, Doris Kline of Birdsboro, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 am in Walter R. Christ Funeral Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, with the Rev. Brian A. McClinton officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services in the funeral home. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
