Verna C. Resch, World Traveler/ Adventurer/Photographer
Verna Catherine Resch, 95, of Pricetown Road, Alsace Township died the 25th of July 2008 at 6:30 PM in The Lutheran Home at Topton where she had resided since April 17, 2001.
Her husband, Stewart H. Resch, died Nov. 27, 1975.
Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Ellen {Hahn} Epler.
She attended Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church at The Lutheran Home at Topton. She was a 1932 graduate of Reading High School; a member of the Natural History Hikers which evolved into The Mengel Natural History Society; The Baird Ornithological Society; Berks Camera Club; an Advanced Amateur Radio Operator {w3rvu}; Co-President of the Executive Committee of the Literacy Council of Reading-Berks from 1982 to 1983; a Penn State Master Gardener Emeritus and a world traveler, adventurer and photographer. She hiked the Andes Mountains and in her seventies, traveled to Antarctica on an Australian naval supply ship to a research station at the South Pole where she tented on the ice. She shared her numerous trips via written documentaries and slide shows with many individuals and local organizations. She never met a stranger!
She is survived by a sister, Evelyn {Epler} Hollinger , Wayland, MI and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by siblings: Luther J. Epler; Wayne Epler; Helen (Epler}White; Elsie {Epler} Whitehead; Ruth {Epler} Nagle and Russell Epler.
