Verna F. Burns

Verna F. Burns, 86, formerly of West Reading and of Sinking Spring, passed away of natural causes April 19, 2010 in the Reading Hospital.

Her husband Francis "Pat" Burns died July 5, 1967.

Born in Birdsboro, she was a daughter of the late Costantino and Anna (Devane) Marino.

She was a 1942 graduate of Birdsboro High School.

After a career of 34 years, she retired from Narrow Fabric Industries as a forelady in 1998.

She was a long-time member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.

Verna is survived by her son, Joseph Burns and his wife Rita, with whom she resided; and her daughter, Phyllis Norman, Hazleton. There are eight grandchildren, Joshua Burns and Jessica (Burns) Ibach, who she helped to raise; Michelle Gordineer, Kenneth Norman, Christopher Norman, Patrice Elias and Craig Norman. She is predeceased by a granddaughter, Colleen Grohol. There are also nine great-grandchildren, Christian and Zoe Burns, Elizabeth, Amanda and Sarah Gordineer, Kendra Norman, Michael and Stephanie Elias and Kayleigh Grohol. There is one surviving sister, Mary Arciosky, Wernersville, who was also her best friend.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Anna M. (Marino) Kocur and Elizabeth V. (Marino) Ruppert; and her brother, Romelo J. Marino.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Reading Hospital for their extremely kind, considerate and caring attention to both the deceased and her entire family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in St Ignatius Church, 2810 Saint Albans Drive Sinking Spring, PA 19608. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery.
