Vera V. (Vogel) Meyer Cowles, 89, formerly of Chester Springs and Fleetwood died October 23rd at 4:20 pm in the Skilled Care Unit at The Highlands at Wyomissing, where she had been since 1996.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Malcolm Meyer who died in 1978 and predeceased by her second husband Charles D. Cowles in 1995.
Born in Bronx, New York, she was a daughter of the late Philip Jose and Elsa Von (Hartman) Vogel.
She was a 1934 graduate of San Leandro High School and a 1938 graduate of the University of California at Berkley.
Meyer Cowles worked for a number of years as a school teacher in both California and New Jersey.
She was self employed for 40 years as a thorobred horse breeder and trainer and raced on tracks all over the northeast.
Meyer Cowles served four terms as a Director for the Pennsylvania Horse Breeders Association in the 1980's and 1990's.
She was also a member of various garden clubs in Chester County.
Meyer Cowles is survived by a son, Jeffrey M. Meyer of Marfa, Texas.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mimi Meyer of Chicago, Illinois.
She was predeceased by a son, Philip Yale Meyer who died July 20, 2003.
Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
