Troy Charles Spayd, 57, of Reading, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021 in Tower Health Reading Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved son of Gloria J. (Hollenbach) Keagy and the late Ronald D. Spayd. Also surviving is Troy's fiancée of 11 years, Vickie L. Weaver, his brother, Kevin Spayd and his fur baby, Ruby.
Born in Reading on February 28, 1964, Troy enlisted in the US Navy and served with the Seabees from 1982 to 1987. He was deployed to Okinawa and Greece where he served as a heavy equipment mechanic. Troy was Battalion 1, Alpha Co. II, Class Petty Officer.
Troy was employed by PPG Industries since 1999. During his 22 years of service, he held various positions within the company. Troy was a very proud union worker and also very dedicated and loyal operator to PPG. He was very well respected and had many friends at work and he will be missed by all of them.
He loved his country. Known as the Birdman of Allegheny, he maintained a beautiful property where he cared for and nurtured birds. He took pleasure in doing yardwork, being in nature feeding birds in his elaborate birdhouses and feeding squirrels. Troy was a proud member of the NRA and enjoyed guns. He was a member of the Mohnton Fish and Game, United Independent Union of Riverside, Paint Makers Union 1309 and Steelworkers of America.
He knew the Lord. He worked hard all of his life and was a strong union man. He will be remembered as a jokester with a good heart and loyalty by many.
Service for Troy are private and at the convenience of the family. EJ Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading is honored to assist the family at this difficult time.
