Services for Thomas Robert Snyder, 78, of Cayuga Court, who died Nov. 2 as a result of a motor vehicle accident on Route 422 in Heidelberg Township, will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading. Viewing will be 11:30 a.m. until time of service. Private burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tilden Township.
Snyder's car was struck while he was attempting to execute a U-turn into the eastbound lane in front of Conrad Weiser High School, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Death-ruling information is not yet available.
Snyder was a former football official and held several volunteer positions at Albright College.
He was the husband of Virginia M. (Reinsel) Snyder.
Born in York, he was a son of Martha N. (Thomas) Snyder, ManorCare Health Services Inc., Laureldale, and the late Paul R. Snyder.
Snyder was employed for 15 years as an employment interviewer by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, Reading office, retiring in 1991.
He had previously worked for 10 years as an administrator for the George Crump Real Estate Agency, Reading. Prior employment included 11 years as an assistant manager for Travelers Insurance, and three years as a social science teacher at Ontelaunee High School, 1951-54.
Snyder was a PIAA football official for 20 years, serving a term as president of the Berks association.
He was a 1941 graduate of West Reading High School and a 1949 graduate of Albright College.
He was secretary of the Albright College Varsity Club and a member of the president's council. He was a volunteer assistant football coach at Albright from 1995 until 1998, and was serving as a scout for the team. He was a past president of the Albright Alumni Association.
Snyder was an Army veteran of World War II, receiving a Bronze Star.
He is survived by two sons, James T., Stuart, Fla., and Ronald A., Arlee, Mont.
There are also five grandchildren.
