Thomas H. McNamara Sr., 81, of Robeson Twp., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. For four and a half years, after a ten year engagement, he shared a loving marriage with Mary A. (Cook) Phillips McNamara.
Born in Philadelphia to the late Thomas H. and Mary (Wallace) McNamara, Thomas graduated from Dobbins Technical High School with automotive certification. He was a member of the Army National Guard. Never content to ease into retirement, Thomas was working until summer of 2021, last employed for over 20 years at Good Foods of Leola. Previously, he worked at Big A Auto Parts and Sears Roebuck.
Thomas was a member of Twin Valley Bible Chapel.
Thomas's favorite time of the year was Christmas. He especially enjoyed setting up the model train display at the base of the tree, and he often kept the displays up past Easter. Having inherited a collection of Lionel trains from his father, Thomas had a great appreciation, not only for the hobby of model trains, but also for the locomotives. He will be remembered as a very kind and generous man who loved his family dearly.
In addition to his wife, Mary, Thomas is survived by his children: Jenny Lee Nuss (Tom) of Kimberton; Thomas H. McNamara IV (Linda Lou) of East Earl; and Kristin D. Fischer (Michael W.) of Bloomsburg; step children: Jason A. Phillips and Bryan H. Phillips, both of Reading; grandchildren: Jessica Lynn Martin (Darin), Daniel Thomas McNamara (Ashley), Laura Michelle Stenberg (Paul), Sydney M. Schlappich, Abigail C. Fischer, John Phillips, and Brileigh Phillips; and great grandchildren Eleanor Grace and James Thomas McNamara. Thomas is also survived by his sister, Catherine Bosi (Leone), and brother, John McNamara (Mary), both of Philadelphia.
He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Santiago.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Thomas's memory may be offered to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
A Celebration of Life for Thomas will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at his church, Twin Valley Bible Chapel, 105 Shirktown Rd, Narvon, PA 17555. Friends and family may gather at the church beginning at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
