Thomas A. Maher

Thomas Anthony Maher, 93 of West Lampeter Township, Lancaster County, died November 15, 2009 at 1:10 am in Lancaster General Hospital where he had been since late Saturday evening.

He was the husband of Martha Louise (McGee) Rudolph-Maher, whom he married December 17, 2004.

Thomas was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Louise (Quinlan) Maher, who died November 23, 1989.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on October 13, 1916, he was a son of the late Thomas and Irene M. (Ramspacker) Maher.

He was a 1934 graduate of North East Catholic High School, Philadelphia and a 1938 graduate of Penn State University.

Thomas retired as an Area Director of Customs, New York Seaport, Region II, in 1979 after 39 years with the United States Customs Service, under the direction of the United States Department of Treasury.

He was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Lancaster.

Thomas was a former member of Our Lady of Assumption Church, Wayne, PA., where he had served as a eucharistic minister.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the North African Division Air Transport Command during World War II. Thomas also served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935.

Thomas is survived by two step children: Carolyn L. (Rudolph), wife of Millard G. Fisher of East Hanover Township, Lebanon County and Susan E. (Rudolph), wife of Robert L. Showalter of Spring Township, Berks County.

Other survivors include five step grand children: Daniel Fisher; David Fisher; Kristin (Showalter) Smith; Emily Showalter and Kyle Showalter.

He was predeceased by two brothers: James V. Maher and Eugene V. Maher.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:00 am in St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603. A visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass in the Church. Burial will be in Sinking Spring Cemetery, Berks County.

A memorial service will also be held on Saturday, November 21 at 10:00 am in the auditorium at Willow Valley Retirement Communities, Manor North Building, 660 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Boehm's United Methodist Church, Thomas Maher Memorial Fund, 13 W. Boehm's Road, Willow Street, PA 17584 or the Willow Valley Retirement Communities Fellowship Fund, 600 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA 17602.
