Thomas E. Lenhart, 74 years old, born in Defiance, OH, son of Louis J. and Mildred M. Lenhart. Graduated from St. John Catholic School and Defiance High School. He graduated from New York Institute of Photography. He enlisted into the U.S. Armed Forces in 1953. Basic training at Fort Rucker, AL and then transferred to Ft. Benning, GA, serving in the Third Army, Signal Corps as an Army Photographer for two years and then transferred to Germany as specialist 4th Class, still as an Army Photographer. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and in the inactive reserve for 5 years.
He started his work as a press photographer in his senior year of High School at his local newspaper, the Defiance Crescent News. After being discharged from the service, he worked at the Chester Times in Chester, PA and after that at the Daily Local News, West Chester, PA, still as press photographer. In 1966, he went into business for himself and opened a photo studio in Downingtown, PA retiring 2 years ago. He did all phases of studio and video work, many weddings, sporting events, and portrait and candid photos for the Downingtown High School Yearbook for several years.
In June of this year he celebrated his Golden Anniversary with his wife, Ursula "Peggy" Lenhart. He was a loving father to his two daughters, Sharon Hodge and Susan Marra, son-in-law David Hodge; and his four grandchildren, Keith, Emily and Julie Hodge; and Rachel Marra.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, December 2nd at 2 p.m. at Marshallton United Methodist Church, West Chester, PA. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. West Reading is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friendship House 1615 Elm Street Scranton, PA 18505.
