Thomas James Reilly, Sr.

Thomas James Reilly, Sr., 84, of Wyomissing, and resident of the Highlands died January 6, 2015, in Reading Hospital with his family at his side. Mr. Reilly, known as "Tom", was a true gentleman, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. His exceptional genial and supportive nature made him a mentor to countless family and friends around the world.

He was the husband of Jenna L. (Milsom) Reilly. They were married on July 16, 1955.

Born in Ossining, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas G. and Grace (Halpin) Reilly.

Tom was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, and attended City College of New York. He had a lifelong love of baseball and played for the semi-professional team of the then New York Giants.

A long time automotive industry executive, he retired as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at General Battery Corporation in 1987. Following his professional retirement, he served in numerous capacities for community endeavors including; President of the Board of Directors of Dayspring Homes, Appointee of President George W. Bush for the "President's Committee for People With Intellectual Disabilities", and Interim President of Threshold Rehabilitation Services.

Tom was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children; Thomas James 'T.J.' Reilly, Jr., Reading, PA, Cathleen A. Reilly, Rockville, MD, Lizbeth M. Reilly, Wayne, PA, Patricia A. Koch, Potomac, MD and Robert Q. Reilly, husband of Heather B. Reilly, Wayne, PA; and two sisters, Jane Scarduzio, Danbury, CT and Barbara Truckenbrout, Jupiter, FL. Seven grandchildren; Reilly Koch, Kathleen Koch, Max Koch, Jenna Koch, Leyland Reilly, Grace Reilly and August Reilly also survive him.

He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Danny Koch.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 6, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Dayspring Homes Inc. in memory of Tom Reilly. Proceeds will be used for unfunded activities for the residents. Donations can be sent to Dayspring Homes Inc. PO Box 158 Reading, PA 19607.
