Thomas M. Illig

Thomas M. Illig, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully left this world at his home on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. Tom's courageous battle with cancer came to an end, surrounded by the warmth of his family.

Tom, son of the late Robert and Doris Illig, was a native of Birdsboro and a 1972 graduate of Daniel Boone High School, where he was a member of the varsity football, track, and basketball teams. After graduating high school, he embarked on a fulfilling career in construction that spanned 49 years. He worked in a variety of positions including foreman and project manager at various companies throughout his career. Known for never missing a day of work, his dedication and grit earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike.

Tom also had an unwavering commitment to his family. He met the love of his life, Linda, while they were both disco dance instructors, and they married a year later. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. As a father, Tom was a constant source of support for his children, Gina and Jeff.

Tom, an avid sports fan, rooted for the Philadelphia 76ers, Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Eagles, and Penn State football. He also loved Fridays in the fall with his family, cheering on the Manheim Township Blue Streaks football team, where his son coaches.

Diagnosed with cancer three years ago, Tom faced his illness with remarkable bravery and grace. Throughout his journey, he never wavered in his determination to survive. He showed incredible courage in the face of adversity.

Left to cherish his memory are wife, Linda Illig (nee Meck); son, Jeffrey Illig (Alison) of Lititz; daughter, Regina Jones (Justin) of Lancaster; grandchildren, Elijah and Aliyah; sister Annmarie Grubb (Thomas) of Birdsboro; and sister-in-law, Bretta Illig of Lititz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Doris Illig, and his brother, George Illig.
