Thomas Hartman

Thomas Hartman, Sr., 89, died March 29, 2010 in his St. Lawrence residence.

His wife Marian J. (Wayne) Hartman died October 21, 1979.

Born in Stony Creek Mills, he was a son of the late Levi and Emma (Loeb) Hartman.

Tom was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the 540th combat engineer's regiment. He served in seven invasions during WWII.

He was a member of St. James Church, West Reading were he served as an Elder.

Tom was employed as a foreman for the American Tool and Dye Company. He formerly worked as a salesman for Reading and Machine and Tool Company and Tragle Manufacturing Company in the same capacity, retiring in 1996.

He was an Official for Reading Berks Football Officials for 35 years were he also served as past president. He was a softball umpire; he played minor baseball for the Philadelphia A's Organization; past president of the Berks American Legion Baseball League; played for undefeated VVV's semi- pro football team in 1946 and played catcher on the West Reading Has Been's softball team.

He was a member of the Reading Country Club and was inducted into it's Hall of Fame in 1995.

He is survived by two sons, Thomas Hartman, at home and Timothy J., husband of Joanne Hartman, Birdsboro; his brother, Calvin Hartman, Green Valley, AZ and two grandchildren, Katie Frantz and Kristie Clare and three great-grandchildren.

Tom was predeceased by his brother, Carl Hartman.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in St. James Church, 644 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611. Burial will be in Spies Zion Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the church. Contributions may be made to St. James Church at the above address or Covenant Hospice, 2615 Perkiomen Ave., Reading, PA 19606. Edward J.
